The Syrian Central Bureau of Statistics releases the merchandise trade data of regime-held areas broken down by year, destination or country of origin, value, quantity, and commodity type, making it a valuable resource for analysts. However, the data is released across dozens of scattered Excel files and sheets, making it difficult to analyze. This research tool pulls the data together for easier access. We also present the statistics in both Syrian pounds and US dollars, to clearly demonstrate the role of the weakening purchasing power of the pound. Note that merchandise trade data comes with a time lag—the latest available data is from 2020.
